The June 7 snap parliamentary elections in Kosovo confirmed the Vetëvendosje Movement as the main political force in the country, although it does not have the necessary numbers to form a government on its own.
The elections did not bring a change in the political leadership in Kosovo, but they did result in a new distribution of power within the political system. Vetëvendosje remains the dominant actor, but it does not have the strength it once had. The strengthening of the LDK, the stability of the PDK, the improvement in the AAK result, and the growth of the Serbian List have created a more pluralistic parliamentary scene. Therefore, the next challenge for Kosovo will be the ability of political forces to transform the election result into a functional governing majority and long-term institutional stability.
This means that the next phase, after the officialization of the election results, is expected to be that of negotiations between parties. Talks between Kosovo Albanian parties are expected to determine both the composition of the next government and the course of the presidential process that led to the current political crisis.
Various analysts in Kosovo have rushed to declare that the new Government in Kosovo will be divided between Kurti's VV and Hamza's PDK, although negotiations may produce a different result. But referring to the election results, it seems that the sovereign has dictated that the parties cooperate, find a political solution, or otherwise Kosovo will head towards another premature electoral process.
Marta Kos, Commissioner for Enlargement, has appealed to the parties in Kosovo to move towards compromises. In this way, Kos has given a clear signal that another political crisis must be avoided, as Kosovo would lose a lot.
In Sunday's elections, Prime Minister Albin Kurti's VV showed that it has a double-digit difference with the other two parties, Bedri Hamza's PDK and Lumir Abdixhiku's LDK, although compared to the last parliamentary elections a few months ago, on June 7 there was a decrease in electoral support.
Referring to preliminary results, the strengthening of the opposition and the growing influence of the Serbian List have created a more complex parliamentary landscape at a time when Pristina must resolve the issue of the president and restore full institutional functioning.
Me mbi 99,4% të vendvotimeve të numëruara, Vetëvendosje siguroi 42,91% të votave, krahasuar me 49,34% në zgjedhjet e dhjetorit 2025. Edhe pse humbi rreth 6,5 pikë përqindjeje, partia e Kurtit ruajti një epërsi të konsiderueshme ndaj kundërshtarëve dhe mbetet forca dominuese në sistemin politik të Kosovës.
Partia Demokratike e Kosovës (PDK) u rendit sërish e dyta me 21,08%, duke shënuar një rritje të lehtë krahasuar me zgjedhjet e mëparshme. Ndryshimi më i rëndësishëm erdhi nga Lidhja Demokratike e Kosovës (LDK), e cila e rriti mbështetjen nga 13,57% në 17,60%, duke konfirmuar rikthimin si forca kryesore opozitare. Aleanca për Ardhmërinë e Kosovës (AAK) gjithashtu përmirësoi rezultatin, duke u ngjitur nga 5,66% në 7,17%, ndërsa Partia Socialdemokrate nuk arriti të kalojë pragun zgjedhor dhe mbeti jashtë parlamentit.
Pjesëmarrja në votime ishte një nga elementët më të spikatur të procesit zgjedhor. Vetëm 36,83% e votuesve të regjistruar morën pjesë në zgjedhje, krahasuar me rreth 45% në dhjetor. Rënia përkthehet në afërsisht 200 mijë votues më pak dhe pasqyron lodhjen elektorale pas një periudhe të gjatë pasigurie politike. Kosova u detyrua të shkojë në zgjedhje të parakohshme pasi Kuvendi nuk arriti të zgjedhë presidentin, ndërsa bllokada institucionale duket se ka ndikuar edhe në mobilizimin e votuesve.
Pavarësisht rezultatit, zgjedhjet nuk përbëjnë një humbje politike për Vetëvendosjen. Ato konfirmojnë se partia vazhdon të ketë bazën më të madhe elektorale në vend dhe një avantazh të dukshëm ndaj rivalëve. Në anën tjetër, rezultati i fundit zgjedhor, tregon se partitë opozitare kanë rikuperuar një pjesë të terrenit politik të humbur në vitet e fundit, duke krijuar një mjedis më të balancuar për mandatin e ardhshëm parlamentar.
Rritja e LDK-së konsiderohet veçanërisht domethënëse. Rikthimi i Vjosa Osmanit në orbitën politike të partisë dhe përpjekjet për rinovimin e identitetit politik të saj kontribuan në shtimin e mbështetjes elektorale. Pas shpalljes së rezultateve, kryetari i LDK-së, Lumir Abdixhiku, deklaroi se kandidatura e Vjosa Osmanit për një mandat tjetër presidencial do të jetë një pikë kyçe referimi në çdo negociatë të ardhshme për ndërtimin e një konsensusi institucional.
Një tjetër zhvillim me rëndësi ishte rezultati i Listës Serbe. Partia kryesore politike e serbëve të Kosovës e rriti mbështetjen nga 4,81% në 6,17%, duke forcuar më tej praninë e saj politike. Ky zhvillim merr peshë shtesë në një periudhë kur marrëdhëniet mes Prishtinës dhe Beogradit mbeten në qendër të agjendës rajonale dhe ndërkombëtare, ndërsa pozita e komunitetit serb vazhdon të jetë një element i rëndësishëm i përpjekjeve për stabilitet.
In his first statement after declaring victory, Albin Kurti used a conciliatory tone, emphasizing that in the coming weeks he will seek cooperation with other political parties to resolve the issue of the president and restore the full functioning of state institutions.
