Former DP MP Ervin Salianji has stated that Sali Berisha was an obstacle to removing Edi Rama from power.
Commenting on the massive protests that have engulfed the country for 26 days, Salianji said that the citizens' rallies are similar to the popular revolts of 1990. Salianji stressed that he supports the rallies, which he himself joined, while adding that the protesters' calls against Rama and Berisha are legitimate.
He added that from this popular movement, the prime minister and the leader of the DP look like communist bureaucrats from the late 1980s.
"Sali Berisha was an obstacle to overthrowing Edi Rama. He holds the opposition hostage. Berisha did not hold elections, he keeps the party usurped, I was not in the race. The calls for Berisha's removal, just like Rama, are legitimate. Berisha should resign to give the opposition the right breathing space. Berisha has been in politics as long as I have been old. Here we need a system with rules of the game, I have been telling him for 7 months, I have made efforts with the Democrats where I voted and I have had more people than Sali Berisha. There is a magic wand that is the popular revolt, the same situation was in 1990. This protest has achieved one thing, it has killed the fear of coming out openly against the government and against Berisha, it has made them obsolete. If you look at Edi Rama and Sali Berisha today, they are like the members of the bureau in the late 1980s. Popular pressure leads to change. Citizens are aware of the rights that stem from the Constitution. The Constitution states that "we the people have gathered and have established this contract to regulate the institutions of this country" - in Klan News.
