The Tirana Municipal Council, under the orders of Edi Rama, will meet tomorrow at the SP headquarters on the "Veliaj" issue...
Edi Rama has started the movement to dismiss Erion Veliaj as mayor of Tirana.
After the ultimatum he gave at the SP Assembly on September 11, the head of government is now calculating all the possibilities to bring the capital's municipality to elections. For this reason, the SP members in the Municipal Council have been summoned to headquarters tomorrow for a meeting.
Veliaj is in prison, after SPAK has taken him into custody for several criminal charges. However, he is still in office and the law has a provision that puts the prime minister in difficulty. Rama did not prefer to dismiss Veliaj himself and passed the ball to the Tirana Municipal Council.
" Our representatives in the municipal council must set in motion the legal mechanism for the dismissal of the elected mayor, despite the fact that this must also be seen by the new parliament, as the legal framework leaves much to be desired in the case when the mayor does not appear for duty, not because he will not appear, but because he is prevented by detention ," Rama said in the Assembly.
The Law on Local Self-Government clearly states that the Municipal Council can dismiss the mayor if he is absent from duty for 3 months, but in the end it is the Prime Minister who signs.

For this reason, tomorrow the members of the Tirana Municipal Council will gather to discuss the procedures to be followed for the dismissal of the mayor. It is not known whether Rama or someone else will be present, but according to media reports, the final decision to dismiss the mayor is expected to be made.
If this act is carried out, the Municipality of Tirana could enter a new crisis. According to experts in the field, if Veliaj appeals the dismissal to the Constitutional Court, then Rama's plan for elections will be blocked. However, tomorrow afternoon at 17:00 it is expected to be known what the decision will be. /Pamphlet
