For 11 days in Tirana, thousands of citizens have been protesting against Prime Minister Edi Rama, demanding his resignation. "Rama resign, he is working against the interests of the country," is the protesters' motto, while the most common chant is "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison."
The protest has attracted the attention of the most prestigious world media, with not only Reuters, but also the Associated Press broadcasting the events from Tirana "live" on YouTube channels. This means that despite the Prime Minister trying to minimize the civic protest, it seems that the international echo is not stopping.
This is the first time in 13 years in power that Edi Rama is facing a large-scale civic protest, which the organizers consider the flamingo revolution.
For the first time, protesters called Edi Rama an enemy, while calling on justice institutions to act. "If justice institutions act quickly against the corrupt, they will have our support," the protesters said.
"Rama go away," a call heard previously in protests called by the opposition, accompanied the civic protest on its 11th day. Protesters also called for "down with the patronageists," while denouncing the pressures being exerted against them.
"The more you increase the pressure, the more we will gather in the square," was the call that emerged in today's protest, while in another message addressed to the Prime Minister, the protesters stated, "you forced our children to leave Albania, now we will remove you."
The protests began on May 31 in Tirana and spread to several major cities in the country. But what has attracted the most attention are the protests organized in several European capitals, where the protagonists are Albanians from the diaspora.
