For almost 1 hour, at the Brigades Palace in Tirana, the extended meeting of the socialist parliamentary group has begun, which is being held behind closed doors. The focus of this meeting, according to a previously published agenda, are integration issues, but also the investment in Zvërnec, for which the Prime Minister has declared his determination to see it through to the end, despite opposition from various civil society groups, which have also been followed by protests.
Rama decided to call an expanded meeting of the parliamentary group, which includes ministers and MPs, at a time when the protests against him have entered their 21st day. Almost every day, the Prime Minister has directly or indirectly attacked the protesters, who are demanding his resignation, while their movement has been dubbed the "flamingo revolution."
It is not known whether the extended meeting of the parliamentary group with ministers will also discuss internal issues of the Socialist Party, related to the departure of Marjana Koçek as a SP MP, or the statements and positions of Elisa Spiropali regarding the protests. It is also not known whether or not there will be discussions or debates or questions addressed to the Prime Minister by the Socialist MPs, including Spiropali, but what is known is that none of the lawmakers will be able to speak for more than two minutes. This is at least according to the agenda on which the meeting was built.
From what is reported, the group meeting initially began with a speech by Taulant Balla, chairman of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, and then it was Prime Minister Edi Rama who took the floor.
Reports indicate that this meeting is expected to last until the afternoon, while it is not yet known whether there will be public reactions from the Prime Minister or other SP officials regarding its developments.
The Socialists are holding meetings of this format every month as part of their preparation for the European integration process, the parliamentary agenda, and the laws they need to advance.
