Law on tourist ports, Jorida Tabaku accuses the government: The proposal
Democratic Party MP, Jorida Tabaku

Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku today made a statement to the media in front of the Parliament building, a few minutes before the start of today's plenary session, where she opposed the law on tourist ports.

Tabaku said that he has submitted a letter to the European Parliament informing them that "the law on tourist ports, the latest amendment to come to Parliament, is in violation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement as well as 3 chapters of EU legislation."

"It is not new that the laws that pass the Albanian Parliament are by order, that protect special interests, but this is the 18th in a series of laws that come by order."

The Democratic MP added that this is about a governance model "that divides public property as if it were owned by mother and father" which, according to her, is impoverishing the country and which, according to her, reflects the way the Albanian government conceives of the integration process.

The Democratic Party has harshly accused the government of a legal initiative that aims to donate tourist ports to clients and oligarchs close to power, describing them as "strategic investors."

In a statement to the media, Democratic MP Ina Zhupa also denounced the draft law proposed by Socialist MP Zamira Sina, which is being passed with unusual speed through three parliamentary committees in one day.

MP Zhupa stressed that this rush to approve the law in the Committee on Tourism, Natural Resources and Economy simultaneously is a flagrant violation of parliamentary procedures and an indication of the “falsehood” of the process. She stressed that this law is “unconstitutional” and the first serious violation of procedure for an initiative with such far-reaching consequences.

'The Democratic Party has made it clear that it will oppose the law in committees, vote against it in plenary session and send it to the Constitutional Court as soon as it is approved,' she said.
