Prime Minister Edi Rama, at a media conference with his British counterpart Keir Starmer, was asked whether refugee camps from Great Britain will be established in Albania, similar to what is happening in Italy.
Rama denied that refugees could come from Great Britain. He said that he is loyal to Italy because with them it is a marriage, while adding that with others it is simply love.
"The model that we have brought to Albania in cooperation with Italy, I said at the beginning, requires its own time to be tested. And secondly, if the function can be applied not in Albania but in other countries in the region. If the result is positive, there is no reason why there should not be willingness on the part of other countries.
We have also discussed the summit to be held in London in October for the Berlin Process where the UK will welcome the process. Despite the fact that the Berlin Process is built within the EU under the leadership of the EU to promote regional cooperation in the function of integration, it will be an added value that at the London summit the countries of the region will also have a window for discussion on the relations between the UK and the Western Balkans in the direction of economic and trade cooperation, promoting investments in the region and the extension of this Albanian-British core in the fight against illegal immigration and criminal networks throughout the region, to have a regional network synchronized with the law enforcement structures in the UK and to ensure that this entire space is a space where the activity of criminal networks that promote illegal trafficking in human beings is absolutely under control.
"With Italy, this was a one-off agreement because of our special relationship but also thanks to the geographical situation, which is quite meaningful. To be very honest with you, we have been asked by a number of countries and I have said no because we are faithful to our marriage with Italy. The rest is just love," Rama said.
