Opposition defeat, Açka: Berisha must resign, attacks on SPAK

Democratic Party MP Flutura Açka has commented on the developments following the parliamentary elections of May 11. She has raised accusations and criticized the opposition's behavior during the campaign, especially in relation to justice institutions.

"In fact, there is no reflection from the opposition in relation to SPAK. This also worries me. When you see that the approval rating of Albanians towards SPAK reaches 75 percent and in the opposition rhetoric we attack it, I think it was not appropriate ," Açka told "Report TV".

According to her, the constant attacks by former Prime Minister Berisha on SPAK negatively affected the public's perception of the opposition.

"I think one of the reasons was the attack that Berisha made on SPAK, but not reading the will of the Albanians well when asking for their votes, I think it was wrong," said Açka.

The MP criticized the electoral campaign's focus solely on the figure of Berisha, leaving the DP team and political alternative in the shadows.

"Another problem of the elections was the focus of the elections on Mr. Berisha. It seems that it was his personal thing, since September 2021 and today. It was carried over to the party and the campaign was focused on keeping his figure at the center, forgetting that we came to the elections with a team ," she said.

Analyzing the voting results, Açka stated that the opposition has lost over 140 thousand votes and, according to her, this is the result of wrong decisions and attempts to secure personal positions.

"We missed over 140 thousand votes on May 11. Those who rushed to get the safe list to protect themselves, Rama took all these tails that we left on the way. The project was to maintain the personal list, which is one of the violations ," said Açka.

She also raised concerns about the way in which candidates for deputies were selected, noting that some went to the Assembly without votes.

"Something is wrong, there are MPs who go to parliament without votes. They locked themselves out and left unconfigured votes on the list," Açka continued.

Açka also said that the opposition should reflect deeply on the abandonment of voters, including the diaspora who, according to her, voted for Edi Rama.

"We have a kind of stance on what is happening. Why are they abandoning us and how is it possible that the diaspora voted for Edi Rama. We must take the blame that belongs to us. Of course, Berisha is also to blame for not maintaining a coherent stance with what he has been doing since September. A deep defeat, Berisha should have resigned, it is likely in a family party ," she concluded.
