The head of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi, has reacted to Sali Berisha's statements about electoral manipulation in Elbasan with the so-called "Bulgarian train".
Celibashi said that the Central Election Commission is not aware of this case, while emphasizing that any such complaint should be investigated by the competent bodies.
Celibashi expressed his confidence that there were no added or trafficked ballots. He added that he appreciates the claims about the integrity of the emigrant vote.
"No, we have no knowledge, but what I can say without hesitation is that the case should be investigated by criminal prosecution bodies to respond to the concern raised publicly."
The administration of this process by the CEC is exemplary. Having said this, I do not discourage anyone and I respect everyone's right to contest and present what supports the subject's claims. We have all the documentation that confirms what we said, this process has been developed exemplary. I guarantee that the standard of integrity is complete. We are ready to answer any question.
"There are no added ballots, nor trafficked votes. It remains to assess the claims related to the extent to which the integrity of citizens' votes was respected in the process of receiving the envelopes and returning them through postal returns," Celibashi said in a statement to the media.
