The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has publicly denied the accusations made during the protest the day before, where it was alleged that his daughter, Argita Berisha, and other family members have benefited from 63 hectares of land in the Divjaka area.
Through a reaction on social media, Berisha described the statements as untrue and denied that he or his family members have ever owned property in that area.
According to him, the allegations are part of a smear campaign linked to the government and are used to divert attention from other issues that he considers problematic for the majority.
The former prime minister stated that his family has been investigated for years and that no benefit from public funds, tenders or other properties has resulted. He also argued that the latest accusations come after, according to him, the failure of previous allegations linking his family members to interests in construction in Tirana.
" Regarding the statement made by a paid slanderer yesterday at the protest, that "Argita Berisha and the family of Prime Minister Berisha have taken 63 hectares of land from me in Divjaka", I declare that: this is a complete lie and shameful slander.
Argita Berisha and the family of former Prime Minister Berisha do not and have never had a single square meter of land in Divjaka and have never taken a single square meter of land from anyone.
Sali Berisha and his family have been investigated for 35 years by Edi Rama's militants and in the end it turned out that they have never benefited from any public money, any tender, or any cm2 of land, public or private, belonging to anyone else.
After they failed with their slanders against my interests and those of my family in the towers of Tirana, on the day when Edi Rama had to answer for the theft of public property proven with the documents of the Zig-Zag hotel case, since he could not answer, he chose slander.
The smearing of public causes with obvious lies is a deliberate means of asphyxiating the cause and oxygenating this government that has stolen the public and private property of Albanians and seeks to hide behind its slander.
"Concluding, Sali Berisha strongly supports the protest of the youth and citizens, but of course not the slanders and slanderers that harm its cause," Berisha wrote in his reaction.
