Piro Milkani passes away. The director who gave so much to Albanian cinematography has passed away at the age of 86. The news was announced by his son Eno Milkani, who wrote on social media: " My father, friend and colleague is gone ."
Piro Milkani was born on December 9, 1939 in the city of Korça. After completing high school, he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Czechoslovakia, where he graduated in cinematography.

His career in cinematography includes directing over 20 feature films and documentaries, including well-known titles such as: “The Sadness of Mrs. Shnajder”; “Colors of Age”; “Spring Didn’t Come Alone”; “Come!”; “On the Brink of Life”; “The Militant”; “Fracture”; “The Red Besa”; “On the Border of Two Legends”; “A Friend from the Village”; “Face to Face”; “The Crushing of Idols”; “The Lady from the City”; “The Happy Couple”; “Paths of War”; “An Iron Firm” (documentary); “A Big Party” (documentary); “When One Day Dawned”; “Why Does This Drum Beat”; “The 7th Children’s Festival” (documentary); “The Winner”; “A Feast on Death” . In addition to directing, he has also contributed as a screenwriter, cinematographer and producer.

In 1997, Milkani was honored with a “Special Award” for his entire artistic creativity at the Euro-Festival in Saint-Étienne, France. In 1987, he received the title of “People's Artist”.
In 2024, Milkan received his Film Faculty diploma after 63 years, an event that was marked with a ceremony in the Czech Republic.
In addition to his career in cinematography, Milkani has had a period as a diplomat and has contributed to the organization of film festivals.
His work has left a profound impact on Albanian culture and he will be remembered for his extraordinary contribution to the art of film.
