Spanish director Pedro Almodovar has won the prestigious "Golden Lion" award for his film "The Room Next Door" at the Venice Film Festival.
While receiving the award, the director did not forget to thank the cast of actors who, according to him, were the key to the success of this cinematic project.
"I have to share the award with my whole team, but especially with Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, because of their talent, faith and generosity towards me. This award belongs to them," said Pedro Almodovar.
This project is the first in the English language of the Spanish director Pedro Almodovar, who deals with an important but also very sensitive topic in this film, such as that of euthanasia.
"It's a pro-euthanasia film," he said, criticizing countries such as the US where euthanasia is illegal, unlike in his native Spain.
Among the films that did not receive any awards were "Joker: Folie à Deux," starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, the sequel to the original "The Joker," which took home the top prize in 2019.
Luca Guadagnino's Queer, with Daniel Craig playing a gay drug addict, and Maria Callas' biopic, starring Angelina Jolie, received critical acclaim but no awards.
