A project by renowned composer Sir Karl Jenkins, which reflects the horror and tragedy of the Kosovo War during 1998-1999, has taken first place in the world's largest annual classical music poll.
His choral work, “The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace,” has been named the most popular in the Classic FM Hall of Fame 2026, after nearly 90,000 votes from the public. The news was announced by presenter Dan Walker.
The 82-year-old composer described this success as a "great pleasure", becoming the first living composer to reach first place in this survey.
In an interview with BBC Radio Wales, Jenkins humorously said: "It's better to get the award while you're alive than after you're dead."
Created in 2000 and dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo War, this work reflects the pain and destruction that the conflict caused by Serbia left behind, bringing a message of peace and reflection to an international audience.
This success demonstrates not only the emotional power of music, but also the importance of historical memory through art.
