It is reported that the EBU asked Bulgarian public television if it could organize Eurovision 2027, a few hours before the grand final in Vienna.
Dara's victory with the song "Banagaranga" in the 70th edition of Eurovision is being accompanied by reactions and doubts about the voting method and the transparency of the process.
According to Greek media reports, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) had contacted Bulgarian public broadcaster BNT at noon before the grand final in Vienna, to ask whether Bulgaria was able to host the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest.
This information has raised questions, as the contact reportedly occurred before Dara took the stage and at a time when the Bulgarian representative was considered a favorite for a place in the top five, but not necessarily for victory.
At the same time, criticism of the professional jury voting system has intensified. Some countries have openly expressed dissatisfaction with the way points were distributed by national juries. Greek media cite as an example Italy, which gave no points to Australia and Finland, while awarding 12 points to Belgium.
The professional jury system was returned to Eurovision to limit the phenomenon of regional voting and the exchange of points between audiences in different countries.
Dara had considered retiring.
Reports also reveal that Dara's participation in Eurovision was in question several months ago.
After the Bulgarian national final on January 31, 2026, where the singer won the right to represent the country in Vienna, accusations of result manipulation erupted on social media. At that time, Dara had declared in an emotional state that she was considering withdrawing from the competition.
Later, Bulgarian public television BNT reacted with an official statement stressing that the selection process had been conducted "fairly and securely."
The selection process in Bulgaria took place over two television nights on January 24 and 31, 2026. On the first night, eight artists qualified due to a tie in points, while in the second final, Dara was declared the winner after combining the public vote with that of the professional jury.
