Police have identified the perpetrators of the double stabbing in Saranda this afternoon. It is learned that Ramadan Canaj (Zoto) and Erion Canaj, brothers, are wanted.
These are two people with high social risk and known to the police.
Ramadan Canaj has previously been convicted in Greece for murder and illegal possession of weapons, and is currently in court in Saranda for "assault in the line of duty." He is considered a high-risk person, as he exchanged fire with the Greek police several years ago during his activities in Greece.
His brother, Erion Canaj, 35, is also wanted. In December 2022, Canaj raped a guard at the Saranda hospital, while in February 2024 he was arrested in his apartment with 2 pistols, but was declared innocent by the Saranda Court.
The incident occurred around noon in the stadium area. It is learned that the two brothers opened fire on Ernes Lama, 24 years old, and Gëzim Hoxhaj, 32 years old. The suspicions are after a conflict between them, but the police are continuing the investigation. According to sources, a bag was found at the scene of the incident, inside which was a pistol. But it is not known whether it belongs to the perpetrators or the injured.
The two injured have been taken to Trauma because they are in unstable condition. Meanwhile, numerous police forces have surrounded Saranda and are searching for the two brothers.
" Today, at around 3:00 PM, in neighborhood no. 4, Saranda, under still unclear circumstances, it is suspected that citizens GH, 32 years old, and EL, 24 years old, were injured with a gunshot wound. After receiving first aid at the Saranda hospital, they will be sent to the Trauma Hospital, Tirana, for specialized treatment.
"The investigative group, under the direction of the Saranda Prosecutor's Office, is continuing its work to identify the perpetrator, clarify the circumstances and fully document this event legally ," the police said.
