A 40-year-old man of Albanian origin was caught by French police with 38.5 kg of cocaine on November 11, 2025. Specifically, he was stopped by police on National Road 9, near the city of Béziers.
"This individual was driving a camper van, rented in Germany, alone. A search of the vehicle revealed 35 heat-sealed cellophane packets hidden under the mattress in the open roof, containing cocaine," said Béziers prosecutor Arnaud Faugère.
French media reports that the cocaine seized by police was worth over 1.5 million euros. The prosecutor said that while the Albanian was in custody, he denied charges of possession and transportation of narcotics, explaining that the vehicle he was driving from Spain to Germany must have been loaded without his knowledge.
The 40-year-old Albanian, who was the driver of the camper van, appeared before the Béziers public prosecutor's office on November 14, 2025, on charges of transporting, possessing, receiving and importing narcotics, as well as the customs offense of possessing goods dangerous to public health. He was sentenced to five years in prison.
"The Albanian citizen, who had never been convicted before by the French justice system, was tried on December 22, 2025 in immediate appearance by the Béziers criminal court, which sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment with continuous detention, in addition to a ban from French territory for a period of 5 years and the confiscation of the seized items," the prosecutor announced.
