The Korça Court has imposed the security measure "house arrest" on surgeon Nikolla Nunka, 72 years old, following a complaint made by a 21-year-old woman.
The young woman from Korça claims that she was sexually harassed by a doctor while she was hospitalized after an appendectomy. The complaint against the surgeon was made public three days ago, while investigative bodies have begun verifications of the case.
It is not yet known whether the doctor has given his version to the court or the prosecution regarding the charges brought against him.
We recall that the young woman's complaint was filed this Monday, May 11. According to the complaint, the young woman had presented herself to the emergency room for abdominal pain and vomiting, and after medical examinations it was decided that she would undergo an appendectomy. During the procedure, the doctor is suspected of having sexually harassed her, touching her private parts under the pretense of performing a medical examination.
The police took the 21-year-old's testimony and immediately began investigations to identify and arrest the surgeon. He was sentenced in 2014 by the Korça Court to 2.5 years in prison for "passive corruption" and was disqualified from practicing his profession for 6 months.
