Italian police have published footage of the operation and details of the crackdown on the gang of Albanian "hawks", who were wreaking havoc by robbing homes in Verona and other regions, terrorizing local citizens.
Four of them were arrested during the operation, while significant amounts of stolen cash, gold jewelry, luxury watches, coins, expensive alcoholic beverages, equipment, safes, and other tools used for the raids were seized.
They were arrested after committing two house burglaries on December 19, but investigators suspect that many other episodes of theft can be traced back to the gang, made up of four Albanian nationals aged between 25 and 28.
They had developed a precise and proven modus operandi, which allowed them to steal large amounts of jewelry and money.
Albanians had the technique of climbing into homes, often using sheets as ropes. In many cases, they would even rip out safes, opening them with sophisticated modern equipment.

They used the same vehicle for transportation, which had been seen in recent months in many regions of Italy. Investigators also secured video footage of the robberies.
"The investigation was launched by officers of the Property Crimes Section of the Verona Squad, following a significant increase in burglaries recorded between November and December in this province," authorities said.

The scheme used by the gang was well-organized and with concrete roles, similar to several criminal incidents in the area.
Agents spotted a vehicle used for transportation at all the crime scenes, concluding that it was the same criminal group.
After climbing to the balconies of the floors above, in constant contact with their associates in the car via walkie-talkies, they forced open the windows.
Albanians would break into homes and turn them upside down, searching for jewelry, gold items, materials, and cash. Even safes were forced open with specialized tools. The crimes lasted from 5 to 15 minutes.

On 19 December, the criminal gang, after committing two burglaries in Via Oliosi and Via Cristoforo Colombo, one of which resulted in the theft of a safe containing gold jewellery and cash, was stopped after returning to Garda, a municipality adjacent to the one where the members were temporarily staying.
The four Albanians, fully identified at that moment, all with previous convictions for crimes against property and two specifically for burglary, were arrested.
Inside the car, in addition to the proceeds from the two thefts, a safe, jewelry, and cash, police found numerous burglary tools, a six-disc flexible key (used to force open safes and safes), and three two-way radios.
After preliminary investigations, they were sent to the "Montorio" prison in Verona, at the disposal of the prosecutor in charge of the case.
