A tragic event has been recorded in Zakynthos, where an 18-month-old child was attacked and killed by a pit bull 
.
It is learned that the child was in his backyard when the family dog suddenly attacked him, causing serious injuries.
"My little boy called me and I ran quickly, that's all I remember. My little boy is gone," the boy's father told Alpha in a devastated voice.
According to information from ERT, the couple, who also have two other children, had gone to buy supplies for the house and when they returned shortly after noon, the little boy escaped their attention and went towards the tree where the pit bull was tied, which attacked him, causing serious injuries.
"The dog was a stray, they had thrown it away and we took it in because people in the village were screaming that it would eat their animals. I took it so it had a place to stay and it ate my child. The child saw me, smiled at me and closed its eyes," added the child's father.
The child's parents took him to Zakynthos General Hospital, where doctors fought to bring him back to life, but unfortunately they were unable to do so.
The competent authorities have been mobilized to investigate the circumstances of the attack, while the parents are being held in custody.
