The Great One

Monika Kryemadhi's lawyer, Redi Llanaj, presented the defense's objections to the charges brought by SPAK against the former MP to the Special Court, arguing that the case is not based on criminal evidence and that the investigation, according to him, has a political background.

During the hearing, Llanaj stated that even the Special Prosecution Office itself admits that the purchase of the villa is not related to corruption.

"SPAK itself admits that there is no corruption in the purchase of the villa. This issue is not legal, but political. There is no criminal fact here. The prosecutor has become a tool," the lawyer said.

After this statement, Judge Erion Bani intervened, asking the lawyer to maintain the solemnity of the session and avoid using terms that could offend the institution of justice.

In response, Llanaj clarified that the word "tool" was not used in an offensive sense, but as a synonym for the word "instrument".

Further, the defense requested that a new accounting expert report be conducted on the income of Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi over the years, opposing the financial expertise administered by SPAK. According to the lawyer, the existing expertise is biased and, therefore, should be considered invalid.

"We have presented an expert report that opposes this act. This is the moment to appoint an independent expert or a group of experts, as this is a matter of essential evidence," Llanaj declared.

The defense also requested that Adrian Shatku be questioned, via letter of request, arguing that his testimony could help clarify Monika Kryemadhi's role in an agreement between the company UNIFI.

According to the lawyer, Shatku can provide clarification on how she met Kryemadhi, how the collaboration began, and whether the former MP had any competence or role in negotiating this contract.

According to the Prosecution, communications found on Monika Kryemadhi's phone show that she and Ilir Meta were engaged in helping to implement this agreement.

For this reason, the defense also requested the testimony of a South African citizen, who, according to the lawyer, can clarify whether Kryemadhi had a real role in this process.

Redi Llanaj also requested that several other people be questioned during the process, including Esmeralda Shkjau, Vali Bizhga, Prime Minister Edi Rama, former Minister of Energy and Industry Damian Gjiknuri, as well as MPs who have proposed amendments to Law No. 134/2014.

According to the defense, this evidence is necessary to clarify the circumstances of the case and to refute the claims raised by SPAK.
