They filled Italy with drugs imported from the Netherlands, 80 years in prison

The Brindisi court sentenced 7 members of a criminal group, composed of Albanians and Italians, suspected of trafficking heroin and cocaine, to 80 years in prison.

The group is suspected of importing the drugs from the Netherlands, while the quantities were then distributed to the Italian market, but not only.

Following investigations coordinated by prosecutor Giovanna Cannarile (Lecce DDA), the financial police of the Guardia di Finanza launched an operation 3 years ago, leading to security measures for 23 people.

After investigations and passing the file for trial, the Brindisi Court decided to sentence 7 people, to a total of 80 years in prison, with the harshest sentence being against Albanian Kujtim Metaj, who must remain in prison for 22 years and 6 months.

Fabrizio Russo, 48, was sentenced to 9 years and 9 months in prison and a fine of 11,500 euros; Salvatore Schiavone, 34, was sentenced to 8 years in prison and a fine of 8,000 euros; Adrian Boci, 35, was sentenced to 13 years and 6 months, continuing a previous sentence; Salvatore Chionna, 47, was sentenced to 7 years and a fine of 30,000 euros; Roberto Mazzuti, 49, was sentenced to 8 years and a fine of 8,000 euros; Kujtim Metaj, 60, was sentenced to 22 years and 6 months and Romeo Myftari, 43, was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The defendants in this proceeding faced charges, to varying degrees, of participating in an international drug trafficking organization.

Metaj, as evidenced by the sentence, along with another defendant (tried in a related proceeding), was identified as one of the leaders of the group.
