£2,500 for 'safe return'

Criminal immigrants are evading justice by leaving the UK in lorries. A Daily Mail investigation revealed that an Albanian man was running a ring that helped criminals escape for £2,500.

Through social media he offered a "stress-free" express service for migrant escapees, with "100% assured passage."

He boasted that his team of drivers had trafficked at least 50 people to France after they "committed crimes and wanted to leave quickly."

The Daily Mail's revelation comes amid growing concerns about the number of migrants arriving in small boats accused of serious criminal offences.

According to the latest figures, there are more than 1,000 foreign criminals in the UK, including rapists, murderers and terrorists at large.

On Saturday, 800 migrants arrived in the country in small boats, the highest number of arrivals in December ever recorded.

An undercover journalist, acting as an intermediary, contacted the smuggler, who gave his name as Alfons and said that a man he was helping escape faced 16 years in prison if caught. He added that he was happy to help the killers escape justice.

Criminals awaiting sentencing or suspects awaiting charges risk being caught if they try to escape by booking a flight or ferry. But unlike lorries entering the UK, there are no “checks” on those leaving, Alfonsi claimed, and none of those he had smuggled had been caught.

Now apparently based in Belgium, he began his operation after removing a security 'bracelet' fitted by police and leaving the UK to avoid prison for a cannabis factory.

The TikTok account 'Returns from England' used a video from an Albanian influencer with tens of thousands of followers. In it, the influencer known as 'Banditi' says: "Contact our compatriot and you'll get out for just £2,000."

"Contact our patriot for people who commit crimes and want to go fast, fast, before they go down the rat hole," he says.

Alfonsi, who increased the price to £2,500 for our reporter, said: “I left in a truck. If I had stayed, I would have been in jail for a year.”

"I was arrested inside a cannabis house. I got into an argument with people who came to rob the house. The neighbors notified the police," Alfonsi said.

Asked why he was not held in pre-trial detention, he said: “The prison was full. There was no room, so they put the bracelet on my ankle, but I cut it off.”

"I've taken out 50 people so far. No one has been caught yet," Alfonsi boasts.

The fugitive would hide in a 'dedicated place' in the back of the truck.

"Don't worry. He won't be found," the smuggler said. "There are no dogs or checks. It's not like the trucks that come into the UK. We have one trip every week and none will be found," he added.

Alfons, who was unfazed when our reporter told him the man planning to escape was a wanted murderer, said he used four drivers, all Kosovo Albanians. He later sent our reporter a contact for a meeting point at Maidstone Services M20, in Kent, the last refuelling and rest stop before the Eurotunnel terminal connecting to Europe.

The landing point was designated Aire de Saint-Hilaire-Cottes, 40 minutes inland from Calais.

When the journalist was unsure of what day he could leave, the smuggler told him bluntly: “We don’t have on-demand trips, like taxis. There are no trips every day.”

Asked about the reliability of the drivers, he replied: " Are you provoking me? Do you know who I am? "

On the scheduled date of the journey, he called the lorry driver on another line, trying to direct our journalist to the waiting driver. Our journalist did not continue with the journey. The Shadow Home Secretary who scrutinises the work of the Home Office, Chris Philp, said: “ It seems as if the Government cannot control who comes in or who comes out of this country.”

"This criminal gang is flouting our border laws and allowing dangerous criminals to escape. This man should be jailed. Foreign criminals should be prosecuted and, after serving their prison sentences, deported forever. We cannot allow dangerous criminals to escape justice," said Philip.

Last week it emerged that another gang had smuggled more than 240 migrants into France from the UK. Alfons' account was taken down before the Daily Mail contacted TikTok for comment.

"We carry out targeted checks on vehicles leaving the country and our work with law enforcement partners has already led to arrests and convictions for hundreds of offences this year," the Home Office said.
