A serious incident occurred in Ravenna, Italy, as the body of a 38-year-old Albanian man who worked on a farm was found lifeless in the middle of a field.
The victim of the work accident was Astrit Elezi, a long-time resident of Castel Bolognese. He was working in a field, part of an agricultural farm between Solarolo and Castel Bolognese, where he allegedly suffered the fatal accident.
Around 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, worried family members went to look for him at his workplace because they had not heard from him. Unfortunately, they found him dead, Italian media reported. The dynamics of the accident remain unclear and will have to be clarified after an autopsy by forensic experts. According to preliminary suspicions by investigators, the Albanian may have been crushed to death by a tractor. He is thought to have received the fatal blow from the fork of the agricultural vehicle.
The 118 ambulance arrived at the scene, but unfortunately the doctors could do nothing to save him, the young man was pronounced dead on the spot.
"Immediately after the tragedy, the prosecutor coordinating the investigation, Stefano Stargiotti, ordered the seizure of the vehicle in which Elezi was found dead and a case for involuntary manslaughter has been opened against unknown persons, a procedure to carry out the necessary checks," Italian media reported.
Astrit Elezit's funeral has not yet been planned.
The Emilia Romagna region, through President Michele de Pascale and regional advisor for labor policies Giovanni Paglia, joined the condolences of many agricultural workers, unions and citizens of Castel Bolognese, expressed to the Albanian's family.
"We would like to express our most sincere condolences, ours and those of the entire regional community, to the family of the agricultural worker who died in a tragic accident at work. Unfortunately, this is the latest in a series of unfortunate events that are also affecting the province of Ravenna in 2025 and that cannot remain unanswered. Health and safety in the workplace must be the focus of attention of all institutions, political and social forces, without distinction ," they said.
They also called for stronger safety conditions at work and the treatment of employees.
Meanwhile, the President of the Province, Valentina Palli, also joined the condolences, along with other local representatives.
The media raised concerns that in the province of Ravenna in 2024, there were 7,017 accidents at work, with an increase of 2.1% compared to 2023 data. In addition, in the first three months of 2025, accidents increased by another 3.9%.
