We have experienced a weekend that will remain in our memory for a long time. Despite their best efforts, Trump and Putin lost Hungary. As a result, the European Union was helped, democratically removing an internal destabilizing factor.
On the military front, the short summary is this: Trump decided to close the Strait of Hormuz, while demanding that the Iranians reopen it to restore normalcy to the global economy.
It would be laughable if it weren't so sad, but it's worth telling the longer and more complicated version of what happened, if only to understand exactly the delirium in which we are living.
Donald Trump announced that after the failure of negotiations with Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz - a strait that was open before the conflict he sparked escalated - the US Navy would intervene to close it, even though it was already blocked by the Iranians themselves.
The only exception is Iranian oil tankers, which Trump has allowed to pass to China and India, paradoxically easing sanctions on the sale of oil at the very moment he was bombing them to hinder their nuclear program - a program that, in June 2025, this same Trump declared that he had finally destroyed.
The war is over, the enemy is gone, defeated and crushed but only in appearance. In reality, he is still there, tougher and just as belligerent as before, equipped with a weapon far more dangerous than the atomic bomb: the ability to upend the global economy simply by closing the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranians had never dared to do this in nearly 50 years of the Islamic Republic, but were pushed to this action by Trump's incompetence. And although now the American president wants them to reopen it, having created this mess and seeing its consequences, he has decided to close it himself from the outside.
If this sounds like a sequel to Christopher Nolan's "Inception," you're wrong. The interconnected levels of Trumpian "magical thinking" are more complex than Nolan's Chinese boxes. Above all, this is not a movie, but reality that has ended up in the hands of an unstable, narcissistic, and deeply problematic leader.
It appears that US military ships, starting this morning and until further notice via Truth Social, will forcibly stop oil tankers that have paid transit fees to the Iranians.

Një “rezultat i shkëlqyer” për Trumpin, bashkë me atë të zgjedhjeve të së dielës në Hungari, që i dhanë fund mbretërimit joliberal dhe nacionalist - ose më saktë trumputinist - të Viktor Orbán.
Përtej papërshtatshmërisë së Trumpit dhe bashkëpunëtorëve të tij, mund të bëhen edhe analiza të tjera. E para ka të bëjë me mbështetësit e tij evropianë. Ata që shpjegonin se rikthimi i Trump në Shtëpinë e Bardhë, do të sillte përfitime të mëdha ekonomike, se tarifat do të përbënin një mundësi, pa përmendur botën paqësore që supozohej të ndërtohej falë “paqebërësit” Donald J. Trump.
Sidomos te vendet që mbështeteshin te ideja e një “ure transatlantike”. Janë të njëjtët që bënin fushatë për Orbánin, për sovranistët polakë dhe për aleatët e Putinit në Evropën Lindore - që të gjithë të zëvendësuar tashmë nga shumica pro-evropiane. Trump dhe J.D.Vance kanë marrë goditje në disa fronte, dhe tani duket se nuk dinë
si të dalin prej tyre: nga dinamika e brendshme politike në SHBA, te krizat ndërkombëtare dhe deri te zhvillimet në Evropë.
Dhe së fundmi vijmë tek përplasja simbolike me Vatikanin. Ftesa e Vance drejtuar Papës për të marrë pjesë në 250-vjetorin e pavarësisë së SHBA-së u refuzua prerë. Në vend të kësaj, Papa ka zgjedhur të vizitojë Lampeduzën, ishull simbol i emigracionit.
Operacioni “Iran” dështoi. Hormuzi mbetet i mbyllur hermetikisht, një Khamenei vazhdon të qëndrojë në pushtet, rezervat raketore iraniane janë ende të mëdha dhe kapaciteti i tij bërthamor mbetet i paprekur.
Aq sa tani synimi i Trump duket të jetë të marrë atë që iranianët kishin qenë të gatshëm të jepnin me marrëveshjen e Obamës - marrëveshje që vetë Trump e hodhi poshtë. Miku i tij Orbán, kali i betejës për të dhe për Putinin në përpjekjen për të shpërbërë Evropën nga brenda, u rrëzua me një diferencë votash aq të thellë sa bëhet e pamundur të fabrikohet ndonjë narrativë për manipulime.
Në fakt, ai në Budapest mbetet i vetmi “ndryshim regjimi” i arritur pa dashje nga Amerika trumpiane. Postimi surreal i natës i Trump kundër Papa Leonit, “fajtor” pse nuk është pjesë e lëvizjes MAGA, hap një front përplasjeje me 1 miliard e gjysmë katolikë - një betejë që Shtëpia e Bardhë vështirë se mund ta fitojë.
Trump do të vazhdojë betejën e tij kundër Papës, do ta lërë Orbánin në harresë dhe do të shpallë fitoren në Iran (edhe pse kjo do të jetë hera e pestë që deklaron një sukses ushtarak absolut, vetëm për t’u përgënjeshtruar nga faktet).

The latter still cannot believe their luck, having had the opportunity to rely on the irresponsibility of a leader like Trump in the White House to settle scores with an existential and, in the case of the Saudis, even a historical enemy.
Now it remains to be seen whether the "Kremlin MAGA", Donald Trump, after his performances in Hormuz, Islamabad, Budapest and the Vatican, will send his loyalist Vance to Moscow to support his mentor Vladimir Putin.
