A new bank will be added to the Albanian banking market. The Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania has given preliminary approval for the licensing of Ziraat Bank to carry out banking and financial activities in the territory of Albania.
Ziraat is a commercial bank headquartered in Turkey, founded in 1863. It holds a valid banking license and operates under the supervision of the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency of Turkey. It currently operates in 22 countries, including the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Greece, Kosovo and Northern Cyprus.
According to public data, Ziraat manages around $166.75 billion in assets. In the Turkish market, it has a high share in housing loans and foreign trade transactions.
After fulfilling all the conditions provided for in the law "On Banks in the Republic of Albania" and the relevant by-laws, within a 12-month period from the preliminary approval, the bank will be provided with the final license to start its activity in the country.
Ziraat will become the second Turkish-owned bank operating in Albania, after Banka Kombëtare Tregtare.
With the entry of Ziraat Bank, Turkey strengthens its position in the Albanian banking market through two institutions with fully Turkish capital: Banka Kombëtare Tregtare, currently the largest bank in the country, and now Ziraat, Turkey's oldest and largest state-owned bank.
This dual presence gives Turkey a significant share of the banking market in Albania, with direct influence on the lending, deposit and business financing sectors. The intervention through banking institutions coincides with the regional investment strategy led by the Turkish state, especially in the Western Balkans. /Pamphlet
