Businesses in Albania realized around 3.5 trillion lek net sales or around 36.6 billion euros in 2024, according to official data published by INSTAT.

Official economic figures are usually published in annual totals and are difficult for the general public to understand. But what happens if they are translated into the pace of a day, an hour, or even a minute?

Businesses in Albania generated around 3.5 trillion lek in net sales or around 36.6 billion euros in 2024, according to official data published by INSTAT. “Scan Intel” has analyzed the data by translating these figures into the rhythm of a day, hour and minute, to make it more understandable to the public.

Translated into simpler terms, this amount means that businesses in the country sell an average of approximately 9.6 billion lek per day or 100 million euros.

This is an annual average calculated by dividing total sales by 365 days and includes every day of the year, but does not imply that every day has the same level of activity.

Divided into smaller time intervals, this amount translates to around 4.2 million euros per hour, over 69 thousand euros per minute and around 1,160 euros per second. The figure represents the total sales volume of enterprises active in various sectors of the economy, such as trade, manufacturing, construction, transport, accommodation and other services.

It reflects the flow of goods and services in the economy and not the net profit of businesses, as operating costs, wages, supplies, and tax liabilities are deducted from income.

About 1 billion lek every 2 hours and 28 minutes

If this daily average is divided into time intervals, it turns out that businesses in Albania realize about 1 billion lek in sales every 2 hours and 28 minutes, or about 10 million euros.

Let's assume that the clock strikes 08:00. A neighborhood store opens. A bakery puts out its first loaf of bread. A warehouse distributes goods. From this moment, based on the annual average, it takes less than two and a half hours for total sales nationwide to reach 1 billion lek.

The activity that generates the largest share of sales in Albania is trade. According to data published by the Institute of Statistics, the trade sector generated around 1.6 trillion lek in net sales during 2024, or around 46.1% of total business sales in the country. Translated into a daily average, this means that trade businesses sell around 4.47 billion lek per day, or approximately 186 million lek per hour.

This is a statistical calculation based on the annual average, which aims to illustrate the size of economic turnover. /Scan
