According to an analysis published in international media, the cost of the United States' involvement in the open confrontation with Iran has already reached over $30 billion, while experts warn that this is only the initial phase of the bill. The figure includes military operations, the deployment of forces in the Middle East, support for regional allies and logistical costs that are increasing by millions of dollars every day.
Militarily, maintaining aircraft carrier strike groups, air defense systems, and intensive air operations creates an enormous drain on resources. Every day that the conflict drags on multiplies the cost, while the Pentagon faces pressure to maintain strategic superiority without sinking into a long, exhausting war; a scenario that the American public has experienced with Iraq and Afghanistan.
But the real cost is not measured only in the defense budget. Tensions in the Persian Gulf have pushed up oil prices on global markets, crossing psychological thresholds that directly affect US inflation. The rise in fuel prices above $3 a gallon is putting pressure on American households and risks rekindling the inflationary spiral, at a time when the US economy is struggling to maintain stability after cycles of high interest rates.
Analysts point out that if the conflict is prolonged or escalates with the involvement of other regional actors, the price of oil could exceed $100 per barrel. Such a development would have a knock-on effect not only for the US economy, but also for Europe and emerging markets, increasing the costs of transportation, food and energy.
From a geopolitical perspective, confronting Iran presents a strategic dilemma for Washington: to maintain credibility as a security guarantor in the Middle East, or to avoid a protracted conflict that would consume financial and political capital at a time when rivalry with China and Russia remains a long-term priority.
At this stage, it is impossible to give a definitive figure for the cost of the war. But one thing is clear: every day that the conflict continues, the bill for America grows, and with it global uncertainty.
