In general, this is a law, albeit a bitter one, of economics. An almost irresistible temptation to trade, whether for petroleum products or for other goods. In a way, it also affects the logic of those who exchange goods and who therefore gain or lose in the variable period between purchase and sale.
What leaves us confused, and ultimately somewhat outraged, is the fact that this situation is repeated regularly.
The consumer is left to believe that the government does not exercise control over prices, and perhaps it is better not to. Thus the almost mythological figure of “market prices” emerges, and we do not know exactly who sets them or who supervises them. Even the government threatens from time to time with higher taxes on speculators.
An updated and more impulsive version of the rhetoric about excess profits. How should this be understood?
Then come the “technical” explanations of experts and industrialists. For example, according to them, oil prices according to the international Platts index have increased much more than the price at the pump. From the way this is presented, it seems as if they also deserve thanks for the reduction that, according to them, they have given us.
