European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen held a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during which she reaffirmed the European Union's strong and unconditional support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
In a post on the social network X, Von der Leyen stressed that "Europe continues to stand by Ukraine" in the face of what she described as a "violent war of aggression" by Russia. She underlined that the EU's support remains strong, both politically, militarily and financially.
According to the President of the European Commission, this year Ukraine will benefit from a financial support package of 28.3 billion euros, which aims to cover the urgent military and armed forces needs of the country.
The phone call also discussed Ukraine's European integration process. Von der Leyen stated that the coming weeks will be decisive, signaling the possibility of significant steps forward on the path to membership in the European Union.
The European Union considers support for Ukraine a high strategic priority, stressing that this support will continue for as long as necessary, until a just and lasting peace is achieved.
