Volodymyr Zelensky began his speech at the European Council in Brussels by honoring journalists who died today in a Russian attack in Kramatorsk. He said that about 155 media representatives have been killed by Russia because they reported the truth.
" The truth is always a pressure, and this is what is pressuring Russia ," Zelensky said.
He praises the 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia and expresses gratitude to Donald Trump for the US energy sanctions.
Asked about the possibility of repaying a possible loan financed by frozen Russian assets, Zelensky said Russia will pay for this war.
" If Russia brought war to our land, they must pay for this war. They are very afraid of this decision. Today we may be close to this big decision to use frozen assets in one way or another. It is too early to talk about what we will allow or not ," he added.
Volodymyr Zelensky was asked about reports in the Wall Street Journal that the US had lifted all restrictions on the use of long-range weapons to target Russia.
The Ukrainian president told the European Council in Brussels that his country has a clear use for long-range capabilities produced in Ukraine, which can strike from 150 km to 3,000 km in range.
"The question is how to secure additional funding to mass-produce those long-range capabilities that we have ," Zelensky says.
He said Ukraine has not used American long-range weapons in Russia. He said they have used other long-range weapons, but only in areas where there is still fighting.
"We did not use American long-range weapons to target specific targets in Russia. We have used various weapons that have this long-range capability, but only in the territory where hostilities continue. I would say so ," he added.
