"The reality is more complicated: Trump, 79, is the oldest person ever elected to the presidency, and he is getting older," the New York Times writes.
Nearly a year into his second term, Americans are seeing Donald Trump less than before. The tycoon has fewer public events scheduled and is traveling far less domestically than at this point in his first year in office, in 2017, though he is taking more trips abroad.
This is the conclusion of the "New York Times", which analyzes the daily agenda of the American president.
Although Trump has touted physical strength and energy as one of his strengths, often mocking his predecessor Joe Biden, his schedule is less packed and his public appearances are shorter than in the past, with most of his public appearances taking place on average between noon and 5 p.m.
"The reality is more complicated: Trump, 79, is the oldest person ever elected to the presidency, and he is getting older," the New York Times writes.
According to the NYT's analysis of official presidential calendars in a database maintained by Roll Call, Trump's first official event begins later in the day.
In 2017, the first year of his first term, Trump's scheduled events began on average at 10:31 a.m. In contrast, in his second term, the tycoon began his scheduled events on average in the afternoon, after 12:00 p.m. His events end on average at the same time as in the first year of his first term, just after 5:00 p.m.
The total number of Trump's official appearances has decreased by 39%.
In 2017, Trump held 1,688 official events between January 20 and November 25 of that year. During the same period this year, Trump appeared at 1,029 official events.
And when he's in public, his battery sometimes shows signs of decline.
Like during an Oval Office event that began around noon on November 6, when Trump sat at his desk for about 20 minutes while leaders stood around him discussing weight-loss drugs.
At one point, Trump's eyelids drooped until they were almost completely closed, and he appeared to doze for a few seconds.
Meanwhile, Trump reacted by attacking the New York Times.
The tycoon extols his achievements and writes in Truth Social that "despite all this, the radical left-wing lunatics at the soon-to-be-defunct New York Times wrote an op-ed against me, saying that perhaps I'm losing my energy, despite the facts proving exactly the opposite."
"The author of the article, Katie Rogers, assigned to write only negative things about me, is a third-rate journalist, ugly inside and out. Despite all of this, I have my best poll numbers and with the record investments being made in America, they should only increase. There will come a day when I will have less energy, it happens to everyone," Trump writes.
