US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, visited Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee on Thursday to consult with experts who could play a role in nuclear negotiations with Iran, a source familiar with the visit confirmed on Friday.
The source, confirming a report by the American media outlet Axios, did not provide further details on the content of the meetings.
President Donald Trump has stressed that any deal aimed at ending the conflict with Iran must include a guarantee that Tehran will not develop nuclear weapons.
Iran is estimated to possess about 900 pounds (about 408 kilograms) of highly enriched uranium, which was located at facilities that were bombed by US aircraft a year ago. Tehran insists it must retain the right to enrich uranium and denies it is developing nuclear weapons.
