Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said today in Tivat on the eve of the "European Union (EU) - Western Balkans Summit" that he believes that Serbia will see progress on its European path in the coming period, which requires numerous reforms.
When journalists asked him before the start of the Summit whether Serbia is closer to the EU or Russia, Vučić reiterated that Serbia is on the European path and that this is its strategic goal.
He emphasized that he is a free man, leading a country that pursues a sovereign and independent policy and a "people who love freedom."
Vučić stressed that during the morning he had a good conversation with President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz, and EU officials Ursula von der Leyen and Antonia Costa.
"I believe that we will see Serbia's progress on the European path and we have a lot to do. What Macron was talking about is that everyone notices that Serbia has become in every sense and in proportion to its size the strongest economy in the Western Balkans," Vučić said.
This summit brought together the leaders of the European Union and the Western Balkan countries, reaffirming the strategic partnership and joint commitment to the progress of the region's European integration process.
The meeting takes place 6 months after the summit held in Brussels and will be chaired by the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and hosted by the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović. The summit will also be attended by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.
