The Israeli military has confirmed that the International Red Cross has taken delivery of four more coffins in northern Gaza, which in all likelihood contain the bodies of Israeli hostages killed during the war.
The bodies are on their way to Israeli forces, who will then send them to a specialized center for formal identification. So far, Hamas has not released the names of the individuals it has handed over.
With this latest handover, the number of hostage bodies recovered from Gaza rises to eight. Meanwhile, Israeli authorities believe that about 20 more bodies are still in the enclave, in the hands of Hamas.
This development comes at a time when pressure on Hamas to fulfill the ceasefire agreement has increased, while the Israeli side has emphasized that the return of all troops is an essential condition for the continuation of the peace process and the opening of the Rafah border for humanitarian aid.
The recovery of bodies is considered a delicate process, both in human and political terms, directly affecting the continuity of the agreement and the fragile climate of trust between the parties.
