Israeli officials have announced that the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt will remain closed tomorrow, while humanitarian aid to the enclave will be significantly reduced. The decision comes as a punitive measure against Hamas, which has not handed over all the bodies of the killed hostages.
So far, Hamas has returned only 4 bodies to Israel, while the families of 24 others continue to anxiously await the return of the bodies of their loved ones.
This impasse is directly affecting the flow of vital aid to southern Gaza, deepening the humanitarian crisis.
The Norwegian Refugee Council warned Sky News that “all border crossings in the south must be opened immediately, otherwise we will face an even greater catastrophe in Gaza.” Spokesperson Ahmed Bayram stressed that 55,000 children are at acute risk of malnutrition.
"The immediate focus is saving children from death. And it all starts with allowing aid trucks to enter the territory," he said.
The interruption of food, medical and drinking water aid, due to political disagreements over the bodies of the hostages, could turn into a massive tragedy for the civilian population in Gaza, especially for children and the elderly.
