Iran has said its navy targeted a US naval vessel housing a "command and control center" as it approached the country's territorial waters in the Gulf of Oman, according to the Tasnim news agency.
The Iranian military said the incident followed US attacks on Iranian merchant ships and a "violation of regulations related to the Strait of Hormuz."
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with Lebanese broadcaster Al-Mayadeen that "any attack on Beirut will have serious consequences and will lead to a full-scale resumption of the war."
Israel and Lebanon announced on Tuesday that they had agreed to renew a ceasefire and establish Lebanese safe zones that would exclude Hezbollah, a statement issued at the end of the second day of talks between the two countries' ambassadors, hosted by the US State Department.
Israel and Lebanon also agreed to participate in a new round of talks on June 22 with the aim of reaching a "comprehensive agreement," the statement continued.
Israeli and Lebanese delegations met in Washington on Tuesday and Wednesday.
"Following negotiations conducted under the auspices of the United States, Israel and Lebanon agreed to implement a ceasefire, which will be conditioned on a complete ceasefire by Hezbollah and the evacuation of all Hezbollah members from the southern sector of the Litani," a joint statement from the three parties involved in the negotiations said.
These measures aim to advance towards a comprehensive agreement for peace and security. All countries reaffirmed that the future of relations between Israel and Lebanon must be decided by the two sovereign governments. They rejected any attempt by any state or non-state actor to hold Lebanon’s future hostage.
The two sides agreed last month to a ceasefire, but hostilities have continued. Israel invaded Lebanon in March in pursuit of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, which has been firing across the border in support of Tehran.
The attacks on Kuwait and the strait are the latest to test a shaky ceasefire between the US, Israel and Iran, sending oil prices up nearly 2% as the strait remains largely closed for more than three months after the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran.
