The Israeli military (IDF) has announced that it has killed a Hamas member, whom it identified as Yousef Ayesh Awad Ramadan, and who it said was involved in the kidnapping of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eliya Cohen, Alon Ohel and Or Levy during the October 7, 2023 attack.
According to the IDF statement, Ramadan served as the deputy commander of a unit of Hamas' Nukhba forces. The Israeli military claims that he infiltrated Israeli territory during the October 7 attack and participated in the kidnapping of hostages who were in a shelter near the Re'im junction.
The IDF stated that Ramadan had planned further attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians during the war in Gaza, considering him an active threat to forces operating in the territory.
"Measures were taken to minimize harm to civilians before the attack, including the use of precision munitions and aerial surveillance," the military statement said.
Alon Ohel, who was reportedly released in October 2025 as part of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, reacted to the announcement by thanking the IDF in an Instagram post and calling for the continuation of operations against Hamas.
On May 16, the IDF also announced the killing of two other Hamas members, Hamer Iyad Muhammad Almatouk and Khaled Muhammad Salem Joudeh, in separate operations in northern Gaza. The Israeli military said they were preparing attacks against Israeli forces in the area.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, the IDF reported the killing of Izz ad-Din al-Haddad, one of Hamas' military leaders. IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir called the operation a significant military achievement.
According to the Israeli military, the attack on al-Haddad was carried out after a long period of information gathering by military intelligence and with the approval of Israeli government authorities.
