The story of the Dutch ship, where several people lost their lives after being infected with hantavirus, has become a complicated international situation, as several ports have refused to accept it.

The ship is currently off the coast of Cape Verde and was expected to head to the Canary Islands in Spain to dock. However, the regional government of the Canary Islands has opposed its arrival, stating that the decision is not based on clear technical criteria and that the necessary information to guarantee public safety is lacking.

On the other hand, the Dutch company operating the ship said that, after medical evacuations, the Canary Islands still remain the planned destination.

The World Health Organization confirmed another case of hantavirus, bringing the total to three confirmed cases and five suspected cases linked to the ship.

Earlier, Swiss authorities announced that a man has been hospitalized after traveling on the Dutch ship. The Swiss Ministry of Health said the patient was infected with the "Andean" variant, a type of hantavirus found in South America.

According to health authorities, person-to-person transmission is rare and only occurs in cases of very close contact. For this reason, Switzerland assesses that the risk of further cases remains low.

Meanwhile, three people were evacuated from the ship to the Netherlands on Wednesday.
