Maritime authorities urge ships to exercise maximum caution

Omani authorities have warned of the presence of a floating object suspected of being a naval mine in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important shipping corridors.

Oman's Maritime Safety Centre announced that the object was spotted west of the Coastal Traffic Zone, within the country's territorial waters. In a message published on platform X, authorities called on mariners, fishermen and ship operators to exercise maximum caution when navigating in the area.

"Maritime transport users are advised to maintain a safe distance from any suspicious objects and immediately report them to the relevant authorities," the announcement reads.

The warning comes at a time of heightened tensions in the region. The US military said earlier this week it had struck ships that were laying naval mines off the southern coast of Iran.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump demanded on Friday that Iran remove all mines from the Strait of Hormuz, presenting this as one of the conditions for reaching an agreement that would end the conflict.
