NATO chief Mark Rutte spoke to reporters ahead of a meeting with Donald Trump in Washington. Asked whether his meeting with Trump was an indication that Trump's meeting with Zelensky on Friday was a complete disaster, Rutte denied that.
He stated that his meeting was planned long ago and that it was unrelated to Zelensky's meeting a few days ago in Washington, which, according to him, went very well.
"No, not at all. This was planned in advance. I was messaging the president after the extraordinary success in Gaza and we said let's meet in Washington to discuss how we can implement his vision for peace in Ukraine. It was a good meeting, it was a successful meeting ," he added regarding the Trump-Zelensky meeting last week.
Rutte told reporters that NATO had been renewed and revitalized since Trump's re-election as president in January and that he "broke the deadlock" with Vladimir Putin when the two spoke on the phone in February.
