Information from sources within the Ministry of Finance has informed "Pamphlet" that, in the 2026 budget, a scheme has been launched to calculate a fund to purchase office machines.
The fund for purchasing cars for officials has been set at 35 million euros, secured by removing millions planned by the State Budget law for investments, public services and emergency funds during 2026.
According to information, the government will purchase 1,000 new cars for the heads of departments in the Prime Minister's Office and the Parliament and for the heads of central institutions and entities that depend on the government, while they have cars that have not been produced and used for 5-6 years.
This fact shows that there is no need to renew the fleet of cars of government officials, but rather to replace cars with brands and products from the last year, while ministers, general secretaries and directors of public companies have cars that cost 100-150 thousand euros.
The purchase of 1,000 new cars is taking place at the same time that the Prime Minister's Office, ministries, Parliament and central directorates, in the years 2022-2025 alone, have purchased a total of 215 cars, even more than the needs they have for officials and the needs of administrations.
Meanwhile, during the years 2014-2025, central government institutions, according to the Public Procurement Bulletin and the State Treasury, have paid 127 million euros for rental cars, while for 32 rental contracts, payments continue with a term until the end of 2028-2029.
Now, Prime Minister Edi Rama has ordered the purchase of 1,000 more cars worth a total of 35 million euros, which is the largest single expenditure made for the purchase of official cars, although leaders and public institutions and entities have cars manufactured in the last 5 years.
