The protest in front of the Parliament has escalated, accompanied by clashes between protesters and police forces. As tensions rose, a water cannon approached the protesters, on the pedestrian side, immediately behind the police cordon. At the same time, protesters continued to throw eggs in the direction of the Parliament building and the police cordon.
Earlier, protesters had also hit the vehicle of the Speaker of the Parliament, Niko Peleshi, with eggs and flour, while opposition MPs were only greeted with chants such as "sell out opposition", "you do not represent us" and "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison".
Police escorted five protesters, including activist Gent Progni, as they were inside the security perimeter.
The situation became further tense when some of the protesters physically clashed with the officers and managed to move part of the metal fence surrounding the Parliament.
Organizer Dritan Goxhaj called on protesters not to attack the police.
"We have it with the parliament! Not with stones at the State Police!", he told the protesters. Chants such as "No to the police", "Join us" and "The police are with us" were also heard from the crowd.
The protest continues under strong security measures, while the entrances to the Parliament remain surrounded by metal barriers and numerous police forces.
