The high temperatures that have swept across Europe are also affecting Albania, where the thermometer is approaching 40 degrees Celsius. Faced with this situation, the Institute of Public Health (ISHP) appeals to citizens to take measures to protect their health and avoid going out during the hottest hours of the day.
IHP specialist, Rudina Çumashi, emphasizes that high temperatures pose a risk to the entire population, while the most vulnerable groups remain the elderly and people with chronic diseases.
"The entire population is at risk. The elderly or chronically ill should monitor their blood pressure and diabetes, stay in cool environments, be careful when taking medications, and always remain in contact with their family doctor or specialist," said Çumashi.
The IHP also recommends consuming light meals, foods rich in fluids, fresh seasonal vegetables and fruits. However, specialists warn that high temperatures favor food spoilage, increasing the risk of food poisoning.
"We must be careful with the process of preparing and storing foods, as high temperatures favor their spoilage and can increase the risk of diarrhea, vomiting or food poisoning," the specialist added.
Health authorities also call for caution when visiting beaches and swimming pools. In addition to the risk of prolonged exposure to the sun, the waters can favor the appearance of skin infections, so it is advisable to maintain personal hygiene and respect protective measures during the summer season.
