Klodian Braho responded to concerns raised by Socialist MP Damian Gjiknuri about the effects of seizures on the economy, emphasizing that the crackdown on criminally sourced assets will not stop.
The seizure of assets suspected of being the product of drug trafficking has also led to discussions within the majority, where concerns have been raised about the impact that the seizures may have on the economy and on third parties that have business relationships with the entities under investigation.
During the report of SPAK leader Klodian Braho to the Laws Committee, socialist MP Damian Gjiknuri raised questions about the consequences that the seizure of high-value assets may have, mentioning the case of an investigation involving assets worth 160 million euros.
"What are the consequences for people who have ordered or supplied assets that result in criminal proceeds? You are entering with large amounts, 160 million in just one case. Do we know where we are going? To third parties. The impact on the economy could be extraordinary," said Gjiknuri.
In response, the head of SPAK gave a clear message that the Special Prosecution Office will not back down from cracking down on criminally derived assets, despite concerns raised about the economic effects.
"Criminal assets are a tumor in the economy and there is no other solution than sequestration and confiscation. SPAK is determined not to tolerate it," said Braho.
The head of SPAK made it clear that seizures will continue in the future.
"There will be more," the Special Prosecutor warned.
Braho also explained that, while SPAK will continue to crack down on assets suspected of stemming from criminal activity, the legitimate interests of persons or businesses that have acted in good faith will be protected.
"As for other persons involved in businesses with these seized commercial companies in good faith, these are legitimate interests that SPAK will protect and will not infringe on," he said.
The Special Prosecutor acknowledged that the administration of seized assets remains a challenge, emphasizing that the responsible agency must have the necessary capacities to manage this process.
With this stance, SPAK conveyed a clear message to politics that the fight against criminally derived assets will continue through sequestration and confiscation, while protecting the legitimate interests of parties who have acted in good faith will remain part of the process.
