For the first time, starting next year, the law on Alternative Guardianship will come into effect in Albania.
Families that meet the criteria will be trained and licensed to take in at-risk or disabled minors. In the first year of the law's application, we are expected to have 173 foster families nationally.
" Professional families will receive payment from the state, and will be under monitoring at all times by state structures ," said Denada Seferi.
Children will be able to choose the family they want to live with, but the decision will be made by the court. The cost from 2026, when the law comes into force, until 2028 will be 400 million lek.
The parent must be of legal age, with full capacity to act, with Albanian citizenship and permanent residence, and must not be of retirement age.
