Journalist Blendi Fevziu has commented on a news story on his social networks, related to the report of the Supreme State Audit on the Social Security Institute.
Through a video published by Fevziu, the latter states that during 2024, over 11 thousand pensions were granted to elderly people who have passed away.
Fevziu explains that the granting of these pensions after the beneficiaries have passed away has caused damage of around 1.2 million dollars to the state budget.
The journalist accompanies this news with ironic tones, expressing that "I know that decorations, recognition, and appreciation are given after death. But to be paid a living pension after death is a bit strange."
"Today I saw unprecedented news. The Supreme State Audit Office has discovered that in Albania during 2024, 11 thousand and some pensions were given after death. So, people died, passed away, were buried, and continued to receive their pensions. The damage was about 1.2 million dollars if I'm not mistaken. Now, I know that decorations, recognition, and assessments are given after death. But, for a pension to be paid after death to be paid for living, this is a bit strange. Of course, it's not only in Albania, but in Albania, losing 1.2 million dollars for people who are no longer alive is...", reports Fevziu.
The finding relates to payments made after the beneficiaries' deaths, during the period January-December 2024. Around 100 million and 158 thousand lekë have been recovered, but over 14 million and 726 thousand lekë remain uncollected and require continued follow-up.
