Investigative journalist Artan Hoxha stated that Iranian drug trafficking groups have established strong ties with several Albanian criminal groups over the years, including those in Shijak and Tirana.
According to Hoxha, the Quds Unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has operated in Albania using cultural and criminal connections to create ground in its favor. One of the unit's members, captured in Albania in 2011, was a key figure linking heroin trafficking with Albanian criminal activities and the interests of Iranian secret services.
He added that yesterday's warning from the US Embassy about attacks on Albania from Iran is not just a routine warning. He stressed that Albania has alerted anti-terror structures, including the Police and the Intelligence Service, and has analyzed lists of persons who may be linked to Iranian interests.
"Concrete acts have occurred in Albania, in which the espionage services and the Revolutionary Guard services have tried to create situations in Albania in their favor. It was headed by a member of the Quds unit of the Revolutionary Guard in Iran and in Albania he had operated in a very strange way, using both these cultural connections, but also heroin trafficking connections. And one of the members of this unit was captured in Albania in 2011, and had very strong connections with the Shijak groups, with the Tirana groups. Iran is known to be one of the most important branches of heroin trafficking. And they, using this branch, entered Albania and had very strong connections. This person, when we re-captured him, because he left, when the Quds cell was discovered, was one of the important characters who mixed the Albanian crime world with the interests of the Iranian secret service", said Hoxha, in the "Opinion" show on TV Klan.
