Skanderbeg Square was filled this afternoon with students from Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia, who joined in a solidarity protest in support of Albanian students in Skopje.
The rally was organized under the motto " Albanianity is with Skopje" , while the participants demand respect for the rights of Albanians in the education system in North Macedonia.
The youth were seen carrying national flags, banners and traditional Albanian symbols, while the atmosphere of the protest was accompanied by the rhythms of the tupans and calls in support of the Albanian students in Skopje. After gathering in the center of Tirana, the protesters began the march towards the embassy of North Macedonia.
The students stressed that the protest is not political in nature and that its purpose is only civic and national support for their peers who are demanding the right to conduct exams in the Albanian language. Organizers called on participants to avoid political messages or symbols during the protest.
According to statements made by the students themselves a few days ago, participation in the protest was expected to be broader, with young people traveling from Kosovo and North Macedonia to be part of the march in Tirana.
The protest comes at a time when the issue of using the Albanian language in educational institutions in North Macedonia has sparked debate and numerous reactions in Albanian public opinion.
