Albanians top the list of foreign entrepreneurs in Greece, ranking first by a large margin over other communities. According to data published by the Greek media outlet Newsbomb, 4,460 tax numbers of Albanian entrepreneurs are registered in Greece, a clear indication of the significant increase in their economic activity in the neighboring country.
"Albanian entrepreneurs in our country are in first place in the foreign business sector, by a large margin, as 4,460 Albanian tax numbers have been registered in our country. People who came to our country two and three decades ago and despite difficult conditions, the language gap and the economic crisis, managed to stand on their own two feet and successfully establish their businesses, creating jobs and providing valuable services in sectors that locals now avoid," writes Greek media .
The first waves of Albanians arrived in Greece in the early 1990s, driven by the economic crisis and the difficult transition after the fall of communism.
For years, Albanians worked in construction, agriculture, domestic services, and sectors where Greeks had begun to leave. Today, many of the Albanians of those years are owners of construction companies or businessmen in the agriculture and fresh produce sectors.
These entrepreneurs have not only consolidated their families' economies, but have also created jobs for Greeks and other immigrants, becoming a real factor in local development. Many of them, who started out as day laborers, now run licensed businesses that pay taxes and contributions, directly contributing to the Greek state budget.
According to market estimates, Albanians are particularly active in: construction and renovation, technical services (plumbing, electricians, painters, agriculture and seasonal work, small transport and logistics, restaurants, bakeries and food units, cleaning, maintenance and household services.
"It is precisely these sectors that locals avoid," as reported by the Greek media. The fact that Albanians maintain the first place among foreign entrepreneurs, more than three decades after their arrival in Greece, is considered a strong indicator of integration and the ability to overcome the difficult challenges of emigration.
