Scorching July, meteorology: Temperatures could reach up to 43 degrees
Tanja Porja

Meteorologist Tanja Porja warns that July will be even hotter than June, with temperatures that in some areas of the country could exceed 41-42°C, while it is not excluded that locally they will even approach historical records.

"Tirana has recorded 40.1 degrees, Shkodra has exceeded 41 degrees and in fact these belong to the month of June, but we expect not only 41 but more than 41 during the month in which we have just entered July. July is expected to be much hotter than June. We expect 41-42 degrees during July, but the intensity could be high, so the thermal value could reach 42.5 degrees or 43 ," Porja said in Dita Jonë.

According to her, the cooling weather that began in the first days of July will last only for a few days, with maximum temperatures of 34-36°C in most parts of the country. However, after July 7, a new heat wave is expected, caused by the penetration of very hot air masses from North Africa.

"While the first wave of July that we expect in a few days, from the seventh or beyond July 7 and onwards, we expect another heat wave, which has given signals that it will be of higher intensity, which means that there is an entry, a penetration of the hot air mass of northern Africa much higher than the Balkans. It will go up to northeastern Europe and the higher towards northeastern Europe this hot air mass rises, the more problematic it will be for Albania and the Balkans. Causing temperatures typical of northern Africa to be recorded in southern Italy, in Greece, Turkey, on these Mediterranean islands, and consequently also in the Albanian territory ," said the meteorology.

Porja explained that, unlike the long wave of June, which exerted continuous thermal stress on the body, the first wave of July is expected to be more intense, but of shorter duration, about 4-5 days.

The Meteorology Department also warned that high temperatures will favor the formation of local storms with intense rainfall, hail and strong winds, especially in mountainous and hilly areas, also risking damage to agricultural crops.

She emphasized that high air humidity will make the heat feel even more severe, significantly increasing the perceived temperature. According to Porja, the most favorable climatic conditions for summer vacations remain the mountainous and lake areas, especially Pogradec and Puka.

According to forecasts, August is also expected to be very hot, while above-normal temperatures may continue during the first 10 days of October.
